“Hi, my name is Charles. I am 63. I ended up in Philadelphia because I was with the Department of Aging in another county, they didn’t know what to do with me. And the best thing about all this is God put me here because if I wouldn’t have ended up here, I would probably die because my health was that bad before I got here to the Mission.”
The cascade of issues began to build when his mother died just before the pandemic. Not long after his father didn’t survive a COVID-19 infection. Then he was evicted, not only taking away his place to sleep, but it threatened his livelihood, too. Soon after arriving at Sunday breakfast, Brad had a job in a Philadelphia factory. “I’m starting a new phase of my life,” he says with a smile. “I’m looking forward to moving on.”
In addition to meeting basic life needs for men, the Sunday Breakfast Rescue Mission enables those men who are committed to a positive life change to address their problems through a 12-month transitional housing program
