What We Do
Sunday Breakfast Rescue Mission strives to meet the physical needs of the homeless and hurting men in Philadelphia through emergency shelter services that provide safe beds and nutritious meals to our homeless guests 365 days a year. Meeting the basic, physical needs is not enough. Staff at the Mission strive to meet spiritual needs as well through pre-meal chapel services, one-on-one meetings, and case management from the Homeless Services staff. Building on SBRM’s successful NEXT LEVEL transitional housing program, SBRM is piloting the SENIOR LEVEL permanent supportive housing program (SENIOR LEVEL) for men 65 and older and have stayed in the Mission’s emergency shelter. This program is an innovative approach to preventing homelessness for vulnerable seniors.
SENIOR LEVEL aligns with two of Philadelphia CoC’s goals by providing low-barrier access to housing and supporting people to achieve stable housing. SENIOR LEVEL includes case management and trauma-informed care. This program focuses on addressing the cycle of homelessness through programming and healthy relationships that provide safe, stable, structured, and sober living arrangements.
Residents in the SENIOR LEVEL will receive on-site medical care through the existing partnerships with PHMC and Thomas Jefferson University’s JeffHope Clinic; they are already providing weekly medical clinics at SBRM. They will also have access to JEVS behavioral health support groups and optional spiritual care from Tthe Block Church. Additionally, SBRM provides three meals every day to all who stay. Lastly, many seniors whom we serve enjoy the ability to live in community, by offering their time to volunteer and participate in the daily life and activities here at SBRM.
In addition to meeting basic life needs for men, the Sunday Breakfast Rescue Mission enables those men who are committed to a positive life change to address their problems through a 12-month transitional housing program
Volunteer opportunities for groups with Sunday Breakfast Rescue Mission take place at our Center City and Germantown locations.
